Kale Pick, the 6-foot-3, 190-pound dual-threat quarterback from Dodge City (KS) High School was in Lawrence this past weekend to attend KU's junior day. During his time on campus, Pick was able to get a good look around and attend Saturday's game between the Kansas Jayhawks and Colorado Buffaloes. On Tuesday morning, the talented signal caller received a scholarship offer from Kansas. Pick was more than impressed with the offer, his first of the recruiting process, and has catapulted KU to the top of his list.

"Yes, the University of Kansas offered Kale a scholarship yesterday morning," said Dodge City head coach Justin Burke. "He actually went to Lawrence on Saturday to attend KU's junior day, and Kale also attended the basketball game between Kansas and Colorado. He was very impressed with what he saw during his time in Lawrence.

"Coach Brandon Blaney called on Tuesday and said there was a scholarship offer on the table for Kale," he added. "He also called and briefly spoke to Coach Mark Mangino. Kale has been on KU's campus before, but I know he really had a great time on Saturday. He is very excited about the scholarship offer from Kansas."

During his junior campaign at Dodge City High School, Pick carried the ball 46 times for 38 yards and scored six touchdowns. He completed 105-of-190 passes for 1,1779 yards and tossed 19 touchdowns to just six interceptions.

Throughout the early stages of his recruitment, Pick has received interest from the likes of Kansas, Colorado State, Iowa State, Kansas State, Nebraska, North Carolina, Oklahoma State, SMU, Oklahoma and others.

However, Coach Burke indicated that Pick is interested in just a handful of schools at this time. The interest in each school varies from very high to low.

"Kale is very, very high on Kansas," he said. "He has medium interest in Kansas State, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. Kale has low interest in Nebraska at this time. Kansas is definitely at the top of his list.

"Kale was very impressed with Coach Ed Warinner and really likes the KU campus," he added. "There is a chance that another offer will come through this week for Kale, but I don't think that will change how he feels about Kansas."

Pick certainly has the ability to play on both sides of the ball. Aside from his role as the starting quarterback, he is also a defensive back. However, Burke made it perfectly clear that Pick is being recruited to play quarterback.

"Kansas is recruiting him to play quarterback," he said. "All of the schools recruiting Kale want him to play quarterback. He is probably our hardest hitter, but I don't know if Kale is going to play defense next year. I don't know if he'll be starting both ways.

"A lot of that depends on what player's step-up next year," he added. "Kale is definitely our hardest hitter on defense."
