Paul Nelson Selected
To Play in Shrine Bowl
The Kansas Shrine Bowl has announced that Paul Nelson of Dodge City High School has been selected by a mail ballot of nearly 40 sports media professionals and selections of the 2007 Shrine Bowl coaching staff to be invited to play in the 2007 Kansas Shrine Bowl. The charity all-star football game is scheduled for July 28, 2007, in Hays, Kansas, at Lewis Field Stadium, Fort Hays State University.
State and local Shrine officials formally presented Paul with the invitation on March 5 in the DCHS auditorium.
Selection to play in this game has become one of the most sought after and prestigious honors a Kansas High School football player can be awarded. Only 68 young men are invited to play in this game each year from the entire state of Kansas.
In addition to bringing honor and recognition to the participants and their schools, the Shrine Bowl donates all net profits, over two million dollars so far, to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
Other Western Athletic Conference players selected for the 2007 West team are Jeremy Reed from Great Bend, and Blake Prutter of Hays. Paul is the first Red Demon player selected for the Shrine Bowl since 1998. click here for video clip
